Los Shapis, grupo musical tropical peruano, propulsor y difusor de la Chicha como género de música tropical peruana, con más de 31 años de intenso trajinar artístico por los escenarios del Perú, América y Europa, fue fundado en Huancayo el 14 de febrero de 1981 por Jaime Moreyra “El Caballero de la Guitarra” y Julio Simeon “Chapulín el Dulce”. Forjadores del proceso de identidad, integración e inclusión que los peruanos vivimos actualmente, iniciaron una corriente que ha generado estudios sociológicos en el Perú y el mundo. Fueron los primeros en tomar el nombre de una danza tradicional "Los Shapis de Chupaca".
Comprometidos con sus orígenes y su lucha por la integración encuentran que la palabra Chicha, bebida ceremonial de sus antepasados Incas, era la palabra perfecta para definir este género. Están las pruebas que en sus discos quedaron para la historia: Dulcemente Chicha (1987), Rica Chicha (1988), 5 Estrellas en chicha (1988), Vientos de Chicha (1993), Chicha con saya (1998), etc.

Los Shapis is a chicha group from Peru. They rose to prominence with their 1981 hit song, El Aguajal (which means The Swamp), a modern adaptation of traditional huayno. They were noted for their rainbow coloured costumes.
Los Shapis was one of the first chicha groups. "Chicha", which is also the name of a traditional beverage made of corn, is a musical rhythm created in the 1980s in Lima. It uses electric and acoustic instruments and was inspired by traditional Andean rhythms like the huayño. In the 1980s chicha was mostly heard and danced in Lima's poor suburbs (the so-called "Conos") by the rural migrants (and by their children) that came to Peru's capital since the 1950s and settled in the sand hills that surrounded Lima. Today chicha music, and its latest musical evolutions, can be heard all over the city, and Los Shapis has become a mythical group whose vocalist's (el Chapulín) life has lately inspired a new TV soap.
